It was this day last year that your dad and I went for a walk and at 1 o'clock my labor started. It was a long day then a long night. When I think of it now it is dreamy, illusive and far away. Your father was my anchor. Ever by my side, holding my hand, bringing me water, curled up next to me on the bathroom floor...
Oh how everything was about to change. We spent months preparing and thinking about being parents and how our lives might be. We didn't know what to expect, we knew we would love you, we knew that you would delight us and amaze us and thrill us and even sometimes test us. We couldn't wait. Now it is hard to remember our lives before you were born, before we spent our days full of love for you and in awe of all of the things you learn in a day. You are a little Buddha, a fresh faced prince, a wise old soul and the bright light of our lives.
Now we are on the brink of another adventure. But this time it is the three of us starting out together, hand in hand. While your birthday is what we will always celebrate, I shall always remember this day as one of the best days of my life.
Love always,
Your mama.
